Professor Donat Spahn

Professor Donat Spahn is a professor of anaesthesiology and Chairman of the Institute of Anesthesiology at University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland.

Professor Spahn is a consultant for the World Health Organization, Section Head for the “Perioperative hemostasis and transfusion medicine” group on Faculty of 1000 Medicine and lead author of the recent European guidelines on the management of major bleeding and coagulopathy following trauma.

Professor Thorsten Steiner

Professor Thorsten Steiner is the Head of the Department of Neurology at the Klinikum Frankfurt Höchst and a faculty member at Heidelberg University Hospital, Germany.

Professor Steiner’s research is focused on stroke intensive care, intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH), invasive monitoring and treatment strategies for elevated intracranial pressure. He has also contributed to several clinical trials on thrombolysis, neuroprotectants in ischaemic stroke and haemostatics in ICH.

Professor Steiner is a member of the European Stroke Organisation guidelines committee and first author of the European Stroke Initiative recommendations for managing ICH.

Dr Oliver Grottke

Dr Oliver Grottke is a specialist anaesthetist in the Department of Anaesthesiology at University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Germany.

Dr Grottke studied medicine at the Medical University of Hannover and trained in anaesthesiology at University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf, Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the University of Aachen. He has also undertaken further medical training at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories, NIH in Montana, USA and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Dr Grottke has published extensively on haemostasis and the reversal of oral anticoagulation.
