Pain is a very important symptom for our patients. They have really painful lesions in their everyday life. Most of my patients, they have difficulty to wear their clothes. They have difficulty to drive their car. They have lots of difficulties in their work. They cannot work efficiently. They have, of course, important problems in their personal life. So pain is something that follows them in their everyday life and really impacts their quality of life. One should also not forget that hidradenitis is something that anybody else cannot see. So the patients cannot show that they suffer from this disease. Many patients don't wanna show, for example, in their work that they feel so much pain and that they suffer from their disease. Okay, so their colleagues, their boss cannot understand why they cannot be so efficient, they're not as happy or as productive one should be or could be in his job, in his or her job. So this is a very difficult situation for our patients. It is normal then that this influences their psychology.
So the mental health is also an issue that is influenced by hidradenitis. Our patients feel very often depressed. They feel very sad. They have questions like why all these things are happening to them. They are anxious every day when the new flare will come of the disease and why, which factor will produce, will trigger the new flare. So their life, their psychological situation, is very influenced by the disease.
