Rio de Janeiro hosts the XIII World Congress of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine and the XXII Brazilian Congress of Intensive Care Medicine simultaneously today with the tagline No frontiers for excellence. The World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM), which was founded in 1977, aims to render important the development and progression of intensive care.

Rio 2017 boasts an impressive scientific programme which covers a multitude of sessions, including:

  • How do we improve diagnosis?
  • When to stop fluid replacement?
  • What is the role of combination antibiotic therapy?
  • Is mortality the best outcome?
  • Sepsis: from screening to the ICU
  • Mechanical ventilator-associated pneumonia
  • Early rehabilitation: is there room for it?
  • Neuroimage monitoring: which neuroimages are essential and when
‘We really hope you will join with us in Rio to hear about new developments, learn new skills, share experiences, and meet colleagues from around the world,’ states Jean-Louis Vincent, the president of WFSICCM. ‘Let’s step forward together into a better “intensive care” world.’
