The 6th International Fluid Academy Days (IFAD 2017) start today in Antwerp, Belgium, and run until the 25th November. This scientific meeting aims to explore the latest findings and research in fluid management, and hemodynamic and organ function monitoring in the critical care setting.

Ideal for intensivists, anaesthesiologists, emergency physicians, surgeons and interns, the 6th IFAD 2017 offers an ideal opportunity for peers to network and share ideas. The programme, available from the official event website, will cover questions such as:

  • Is saline 0.9% so bad?
  • Is chloride really so bad?
  • What is my ideal balanced solution?
  • Is there still a place for HES solutions in the OR or ER?
  • Do we have to fill the gap left by starches with crystalloids, other colloids or albumin?
  • Is it impossible to avoid fluid overload with a crystalloids only strategy?
  • Is there a definitive indication for human albumin?
  • How do we treat and monitor specific patient populations, with trauma, liver failure, brain edema and right heart failure among others?
  • How do we avoid a one-size-fits-all regimen in perioperative goal-directed therapy?
  • What is missing in the surviving sepsis campaign guidelines
  • Do we need clinical assessment vs. monitoring devices?
  • How should we assess cardiac filling?

IFAD, which began as a local initiative, is now integrated with the International Medical Education and Research Initiative (iMERiT).
