2026 ESC guidelines for the management of heart failure: Developed by the task force for the management of heart failure of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) With the special contribution of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the ESC Endorsed by the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS)

These guidelines refine the classification of heart failure according to left ventricular ejection fraction, with the aim of facilitating its application in clinical practice, while also introducing a stage-based classification that places greater emphasis on disease prevention, early recognition, and timely intervention.

A revised nomenclature for heart failure therapies is also proposed to provide greater clarity in the community. Furthermore, indications to treatments have been updated based on new evidence, taking into account new guidance for interpretation of evidence recently published by the ESC.
