World IBD Day takes place on May 19 each year to unite people worldwide in the flight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Organisations from 50 countries and 5 continents participate in raising awareness.

More than 10 million people worldwide live with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

World IBD Day is led by patient organisations representing over 50 countries on five continents and is coordinated by The European Federation of Crohn's & Ulcerative Colitis Associations (EFCCA), Many other IBD organisations and IBD activists and other stakeholders have joined the fight against IBD over the years.

During the global campaign, famous landmarks around the world will be lit in purple in order to raise awareness about IBD. Alongside illuminated landmarks, many association activists will organise local supporting events aimed at lobbying and providing information about IBD.

The Learning Zones are an educational resource for healthcare professionals that provide medical information on the epidemiology, pathophysiology and burden of disease, as well as diagnostic techniques and treatment regimens.
