Boston Scientific Corporation has received CE Mark for the Ranger Paclitaxel-Coated PTA Balloon Catheter. The technology is now in full European market launch. The Ranger Drug-Coated Balloon (DCB) provides physicians with an additional option to treat Peripheral Artery Disease, delivering an anti-stenotic drug to diseased vascular tissue while leaving no permanent implant behind.

Drug Coated Balloons coating can be fragile and unstable. While delivering the device, some drug and excipient can flake off the balloon before reaching the lesion. As a consequence, the actual drug delivery to the lesion may be non-homogeneous and inconsistent. Boston Scientific developed TransPax a proprietary coating technology designed to optimize the drug coating integrity and efficiently deliver the drug to the tissue. A loading tool and proven Sterling balloon also contribute to coating integrity, deliverability and ease of use. With these innovations the Ranger DCB provides a more consistent and predictable treatment option.
