4.1 Therapeutic indications
Bivalirudin is indicated as an anticoagulant in adult patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), including patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary PCI. Bivalirudin is also indicated for the treatment of adult patients with unstable angina/ non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (UA/NSTEMI) planned for urgent or early intervention. Bivalirudin should be administered with acetylsalicylic acid and clopidogrel.

Intravenous (IV) fluids may be associated with complications not often attributed to fluid type. Fluids with high chloride concentrations such as 0.9 % saline have been associated with adverse outcomes in surgery and critical care.
