Management of Anaemia and Iron Deficiency in Patients With Cancer: European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Clinical Practice Guidelines


Anaemia and iron deficiency are frequent complications in patients with solid tumours or haematological malignancies, particularly in patients treated with chemotherapeutic agents. These new ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines provide tools to evaluate anaemia, also in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes, and include recommendations on how to safely manage chemotherapy-induced anaemia with erythropoiesis-stimulating agents, iron preparations for intravenous (i.v.) or oral administration, red blood cell transfusions and combinations of these treatments.
